Who Are Those Guys, Anyway?"Who are those guys, anyway?" What a great line! It's from one of our favorite movies, "Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid". Butch and Sundance, (notorious bankrobbers) are constantly being chased throughout the movie. However, they are never quite sure who is chasing them. And so, the same question keeps coming up, "Who are those guys anyway?" Love it! Even though that famous movie line doesn't apply to us literally, (in many ways), it does apply to us figuratively! Sure, we know a lot of people! But, with the exception of our family members and close friends...most of those people, probably don't realize, who we are! But you! You, might know us, better than most!
The Early Years...
Early on, (like many people do) we moved around...a lot! Four different states, eight different towns, and who remembers how many apartments. It took us a while, but we finally settled down, had two wonderful children, and have been (happy) homeowners for nearly 20 years! (It could have been that we were one of your neighbors!)
Through our 25 years of marriage, we have drifted in and out of many, many antique shops/malls, flea markets, auctions, and estate sales; from all over the United States.
(Perhaps, you have seen us at an auction like this one! Or, in one of the many antique shops, that we have browsed!) Our interests are many, but old newspapers, old letters, and vintage postcards never fail to capture our attention! On occasion, we would stumble upon a "special find" in some old dusty antique shop! Those of you who collect paper ephemera, know exactly what we are talking about! (Maybe, that's where you saw us! Sorry, we were in a hurry!) On those days, we could hardly wait to get home and begin sorting out those paper treasures! (...perhaps,the same feeling that Butch and Sundance got when they robbed a bank!) ...The Middle Years...
Time passsed! We were becoming, (unknowingly), addicted to "old paper collectibles"! Here's a brief example! On our 10th anniversary, we celebrated with a trip to London and Paris. Of course, we saw the major tourist sites! But, what do you think that we did in our spare time? (No, not that!) Yep! We visited the antique shops! (Perhaps it was on Portobello Road in London, that you first noticed us!) More auctions, estate sales, flea markets...it was beginning to add up some! ...The Now Years!Even now, as our kids grow older, we usually manage to visit a couple of antique shops on our family vacations. We can't drive by all of them now, can we?We also continue to add to our collection via the internet! (Though, we still recommend going out and hitting the streets!) And, of course, this website is a newfound passion of ours! It allows us to share our experience, interests, and knowledge of paper collectibles...with all of you! And, The Future?Not many people (that we know), can predict how their future will unfold!
Will this website make us famous? It is rather doubtful that you will ever see us on the cover of Time magazine. But, hey, if you do, at least you'll know who we are! Rather, is much more likely that you will see us in a crowd of people, just like this one! (Who are those guys, anyway?)
Nope! We are just your ordinary folks, who truly enjoy looking through old paper collectibles. ...That, is something we can predict!
Why Bother With All of That Stuff?
Good Question! Many people have asked us that question! And quite honestly, it's a difficult one, for us, to answer! The short answer? We love vintage paper ephemera of all types! There is a certain "magical," and even mystical quality attached to many of these paper treasures!
The LOOK! The FEEL! And yes, even The SMELL! Those are just some of the reasons, that we bother... What? No Picture?By now, you must have surely noticed that we have failed, (or rather, conveniently neglected) to include a picture of ourselves.No, it was not an accidental ommission!
