Vintage Valentines Day Cards
Vintage Valentines Day Cards are a nice collectible! They are so, soooooo, romantic! We came across a bunch of these cards in one of our boxes, so we thought we'd share a few with you!
Perhaps, you have some yourselves. Why not pick up a few scrapbooking supplies and display them?
Many of these vintage cards were delicate and very fragile, so handle them with care!
Take some time to properly preserve and store them now. You will thank yourself later on!
Check this one out!
This example is from 1959! It has a cushioned satin heart in the middle! (soft to the touch!)

Sadly, it wasn't preserved very well as it contains a few stains! (or, maybe those are chocolate stains...hmmn!) Even so, it is a very pretty card!
Now, check out this one!

Look closely! This is one very elaborate Valentines Day card!Note the detail in the paper lace heart!

It actually has three different layers!
Wait for it...

Here's your special Valentines Day message! This one was sent to our Aunt Lesta who was in her teens at the time. (late 1930's)

The back of the card is just as pretty as the front! Pretty cool card, eh?
But, Tell Me...Are They worth Anything?
Maybe yes! Maybe...not so much! It depends really! Like any other paper collectible, the condition of your card is most important:
- Can you easily read it?
- Are there any stains, folds, or obvious crease marks?
- Do you have the original envelope? Bonus, if you do!
(Why? Postmarks will identify the letter; where it was mailed to/from, date, and for stamp collectors...possibly a valuable stamp!)
- A well preserved card may be sold in an antique mall anywhere from $2.00-$10.00/and more!
- We feel that the cards shown on this page would very easily fall into the $2-$10 range! How do we know? We recently visited an antique mall to verify this statement!
Now you say, "Oh my! I have a box full of these cards in my basement...there must be 20 or more! Does that mean that you could sell them for $200? Probably not...unless you sell them one by one, (which may take years)!
Here's one option, try a consignment shop! Or, sell them directly to a dealer! You are more likely (and much easier too!) to sell your entire collection to a dealer for a fixed price.
Agree to a reasonable and fair price, (after having done your homework), and live with it! Let the dealer do the hard work for you and, in turn, let them some money for doing so! Everyone's happy!
Okay, here's one more for you!
This was another one of Aunt Lesta's cards! Wow! She must have been pretty popular!
This is another classic example of one of the many Valentines Day cards available during the early 1900's.
Random Notes...
Anyone who collects anything will love collecting these types of vintage specialty cards. Pull them out around the end of January and enjoy them through the Valentines Day Holiday period.
Our Advice?
Once again, "Collect what you like...like what you collect!"
There are so many of these cards to choose from; they were very popular! And...many people saved them, because of their special, and often, personal message! So, when you go through those attic treasures, take a second look! You may just find a truly collectible vintage Valetines Day card!
