Garage Sales, Tag Sales, & Thrift Shops
Have you been to any garage sales lately? If not...why not? You may be surprised at what you find!
Antique shops and flea markets are a great source of paper ephemera collectibles. But the next time you feel the urge, why not just stay in the neighborhood?
Attend a local tag sale or, visit your local thrift shop. There is no need to explain, or define these common terms.
The real question that you want to know is this! Can you find collectible paper ephemera items, (old paper goods) at these types of sales and stores?
Well...yes, but...let's not get too excited! It is possible (we have done it!) but, not very probable!
Keep Looking...Keep Moving!
Merchandise selection is often very random!
You will need to sharpen your searching skills and focus your attention on the task at hand.
Too much stuff to look at? Then ask the owner a few questions.
Tell them what you're looking for. Don't be shy! Why waste your time? You have many more houses to stop at. Keep moving!
After a while, you'll know almost immediately if you've hit a "hot-spot"! Your trained eyes will guide you directly to the treasure chest. You know what we're talking about...that box of paper goods under the old ironing board for sale. That's it!
Ready, Set, Go...to many Garage Sales!

Before you set out, take a quick look at our flea market tips. Many of the same guidelines will apply here as well, such as:
- Map out your day! Pick a community sale to maximize your search with minimal travel.
- Dress comfortably! Be prepared for the weather elements!
- Take along many small bills and a pocket full of change!
- Be courteous! Respect your neighbor's stuff!
- Mind your time! Be efficient! Keep moving!
- Have fun! Meet some new neighbors, and their neighbors!
Thrift Stores!
Just a quick note on thrift stores, such as Goodwill, or The Salvation Army. While it is not likely that you will find anything of value, in terms of paper ephemera, give them a chance anyway!
Maybe you are heading out to hit some garage sales and it begins to rain. Why not take in a few thrift stores instead? You never know what you will find! (Kids love them too!)
Random Notes...
You will have a successful garage sale day with a little prep work, a little knowledge, a little luck! But please, have fun! Let's not make this too hard!
Our Advice?
Do you like old books? Garage sales, tag sales, (and yes), even thrift stores are a great place to pick up some cheap books. You will be amazed at what you'll find...new, old, coffee table, children's, travel...everything!
And if you're lucky, you may just find that box full of paper treasures hidden away in the corner. Buy it! Then ask for more...
