Are You Displaying Keepsakes Safely!

Is displaying keepsakes (especially old paper items) a concern of yours? Why not preserve those old paper treasures?

Let's face it! You simply can not display everything! Some paper goods may be too fragile! Many folded items don't display very well! Others, may already be badly faded and need to be preserved and protected...not displayed!

So, is displaying keepsakes...actually damaging your keepsakes? Maybe! Let's take a closer look! You need to follow as many of the rules below as possible. Read on...

Displaying Keepsakes Properly!

The rules here are fairly simple, but compliance is mandatory if you are to keep your paper treasures safe!

Many of these rules are similar to those of preserving your paper treasures.

Keep in mind a few of these basic tips:

  • Light Control - Light control is very crucial when displaying your paper keepsakes. Most light sources will gradually fade your paper. Tip! Display (already faded) items on an interior wall away from direct sunlight!
  • window blinds

  • Temperature Control - Similar to light, excessive temperatures will also speed up the paper deteriation process!

Tip! Try to keep your room temperature constant (and cool!)

  • Humidity Control - Once again, moisture in the air is a major enemy of any paper product. Tip! Use a de-humidifier to control moisture if needed!
  • Limited Handling - One reason (if not the main reason) that you want to display your paper collection is to prevent excessive handling of your paper goods! Tip! The "Look, but don't touch!" policy definitely apply's here!
  • Acid-Free - Always use acid-free materials when mounting and displaying your paper items! Tip! Wear cotton gloves when handling your old paper goods!
  • Archival Quality - Likewise, use Archival Quality, or Museum Grade products when framing your paper treasures. Tip! These may be slightly more expensive in the beginning, but more than pay off in the long run!
