Celebrity Posters
(...and others too!)
Celebrity posters may include many categories; sports posters, movie posters, vintage posters, teen posters, old posters.
For now, we are lumping all of these together on one page!
Let's start off with a celebrity poster. Who better than Elvis Presley?
Got one of those at home? A lot of people do!
This one is pretty basic...in black and white! But no doubt, there are probably 100's of different Elvis posters in print.

Now for the movies...any Star Wars fans out there? Our son owns this one... The Star Wars name is a hot collectible in every aspect and movie posters are definitely part of that tremendous empire!

Movie posters have always been a favorite paper collectible!
Sadly, we do not have very many in our collection (we have plenty of other stuff!)
They are normally quite colorful and very pleasing to the eye.
Many people will wrap a nice frame around their movie poster. Thus, they can proudly display it as they would any other piece of fine art.
A nicely framed movie poster can add quite a unique look to your home. It will normally attract more attention and conversation than any other piece on your wall!

Twilight fan?
Who isn't, these days?
Here's a couple of posters from the most recent movie "New Moon".
Nothing fancy! They came from a teen magazine.
It doesn't really matter where they came from...kids absolutely love hanging posters on their walls!
Okay, how about those sports posters? Most sports posters are celebrity posters! And, most kids growing up have at least one, and usually many, sports posters hanging on their walls.

This poster of Lou Brock, from the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team, was very popular during the 1970's.
How do we know that? Because it is part of our personal collection.
It is approximately 40 years old and held up surprisingly well, considering how many times it was moved about the room.
And who doesn't recognize the great Basketball player, Michael Jordon?
This poster (below) is from early on in his fabulous career, Can you tell by how young he looks?
We have plenty more posters from our childhood memories that we could show you. NO! We're not going to show you all of them!
Our point is simply this...We feel that those old celebrity posters are worth pulling out of the box, once in a while. Why not display them proudly?
Buy a decent poster frame and rotate them. If you're a sports fan, rotate them by season. Or perhaps, you could display several of them in a recreation room, office, or movie room!
Then, when you take them down again, preserve them properly, so that you may...one day...years later...do it again!
Protecting Those Celebrity Posters
Think about how you would protect that old letter...only bigger! Check out our page on paper preservation for a few more details.
If you want to protect and preserve and store that poster of yours, then you need to follow the basic principles of any paper preservation.
Following the tips below should help you.
Give them a try before you fold up that valuable poster of yours!
- Handle with care - Try to avoid handling the poster as much as possible! Use cotton gloves to prevent those oily hands of yours from damaging the poster.
- Store Horizontally - If at all possible, store your poster in the horizontal position, spread out evenly and flat. Acid free tubes can be purchased for storing posters in the rolled up position.
- Buffer Sheets - If you plan on storing more than one poster together, MAKE SURE that you use acid-free buffer sheets in between each poster. YOU DO NOT want your valuable and collectible posters to stick together or bleed on one another.
- Tears/Crinkled Edges - Be extremely careful when handling tears or damaged edges. Use acid-free paper to protect them and consider using a backer board (acid-free, of course) to add additional support!

If your poster has special meaning and/or value to you, then it is worth protecting! Wouldn't you agree?
...More (non-celebrity) Poster Examples...
How about some more examples to view? C'mon! Just a few...these are a little different! We promise!
Uh-huh! That's right! This is a black light poster from (can you quickly guess?) the 1970's.
How many out there had one of these? Yep! There was a time period back then when black light posters were very hot sellers!
This particular poster, of the clipper ship, illuminated nicely under the effects of the black light!
It was allowed to hang on the bedroom wall, unlike many others, that may not have been suitable for a young kid. (After all, It was the 70's!)

CKLW was "THE STATION" in the Detroit, MI area in the 1970's! Everyone tuned in!
Like many radio stations, around New Year's Eve/Day they would play back their Top 500 songs of the year, (from #500 to #1).
If you wanted a list of the songs, you could write to the station and they would send you this poster! Pretty cool, eh?
Bet that has you wondering what that #1 song of 1975 (in the Detroit, MI area) was, doesn't it? Or how about the #500 song?
Well, okay! The #1 song in 1975, according to CKLW, was...
"KUNG FU FIGHTING" by Carl Douglas
and # 500 was...
"STUCK IN THE MIDDLE" by Stealers Wheel, (one our favorites by the way!)
And finally, here's one more celebrity poster, kind of...

Animal Express! It's a take-off of the old "Do you know me?" American Express commercials.
We know, it's kind of corny, but true enough, it was a popular poster in it's time! (GULP! Yes, it is ours!)

Random Notes...
Posters, of any kind are always fun for kids...and a lot of adults too! We had fun pulling out all of our old posters, some of which, were long forgotten!
We also had fun putting together the teen posters page. Our age showed somewhat, as we had to ask our daughter to verify names and faces.
Our Advice?
Take a moment or two and go find yours! C'mon! Almost everyone has at least one poster tucked away somewhere...the one that you just couldn't throw out.
Finds yours; pull it out, and enjoy! If you saved it, then there are probably some fond memories related to it! Better yet, have some fun with it by placing it in a nice frame and displaying it all over again!
