Automobile Ads
(VINTAGE)
Who doesn't like looking at vintage automobile ads? We'll show you a few of our own that we have collected.

Many kids have filled up many, many scrapbook pages with photo's of automobile ads. We have!
Face it, these old vintage ads, were once our "dreams of the future!"
To some of us, they still are...
Are you serious? A 1951 Frazer Vagabond! Is that car "too cool" or what?
Who wouldn't love having one of those sitting pretty in your garage?
Or, what about this 1942 Pontiac sedan? (below)
That thing would barely fit in your garage!
Look how long those fenders are. And, check out that long curved back.

These are cars that we just don't see anymore. That's why we love looking at these vintage ads.
Honestly, we don't remember ever seeing a De Soto or a Frazer...live...in person!
Collecting these vintage automobile ads just brings us a little closer to the real thing!
These cars and their ads are now considered rare pieces of art, clasic time pieces, in a truly classic period of time!
There were many "new brands" hitting the marketplace and they all wanted a piece of the pie.

Not all survived!
And even today, the same holds true...
A De Soto? Wow!
Just check out those aerodynamics.
They really were ahead of their time!
And look at that front end with that fabulous chrome job.
My, oh my, the front end alone must have weighed a ton!
This era for automobile ads was absolutely fabulous! Just can't get enough...

Now, don't forget about the wax!
Johnson's paste wax was one of the leader's in keeping your classic car looking great!
"Once around with J-wax cleans and waxes your car!"
Wow! That's a lot of car to wax!
Don't forget those "fancy-dancy" wheel covers...or all of the rest of the chrome!
That's a lot of hard work; but he looks happy!

Let's not forget about General Motors!
In many ways, they did lead the way!
Buick, Pontiac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Cadilac, GMC trucks, and whatever else...they were truly a dominent car-maker for many, many, years!
And who could forget the "VW BEETLE"?
Everyone...knew someone...that had one!

Aaahhh!!! The Studebaker! What a Classic!
We love their sales pitch..."The new American Car with the European look!
1953! The United States became comfortable with their cars and began looking towards Europe for new styles.
Some might say, that we still do!
Maybe so, this 1953 Chevrolet doesn't look all that much different than the 1942 Pontiac above!

But the late 1960's and 1970's changed all of that! The era of the muscle car was just starting.
And who better to lead the way than the Chevrolet Corvette and Camaro? Two of our all-time favorites!
Of course there were many more: Plymouth Road Runner, Ford Mustang, Pontiac GTO, and on and on...
This category of automobile advertising is absolutely endless. We would love to see some of your favorites.

Why not "show us" some of yours?
Tire companies such as Goodyear, BF Goodrich, Firestone, Atlas, and many more, became very competitive with their automobile advertising campaigns.
This Goodyear ad from a 1956 Collier's magazine was pushing out it's new Nylon Custom Tubeless line of tires.
Wow! Nylon!
And tubeless!!! No more patching old tire tubes!
Check out that cool car too!
And don't forget about BF Goodrich.
This ad came from a 1941 Life magazine.
This vintage ad featured the BF Goodrich Silvertowns, which was made with "Duramin- the tire vitamin". Really?
Duramin (supposedly) helps keep your tires young by conserving rubber.
With WW II looming, BF Goodrich help sell its tires by claiming to help conserve America's vital rubber supply.
...little did they know...
Just one more here folks!
Champion Spark Plugs. This automobile parts ad came from the same Collier's 1953 magazine.
It was clear by now, that not only automobile ads were popular, but also the ads for the automobile parts, as well.
Motor oil, transmission fluid, car wax, and spark plugs were just a few industries to jump in.
Champion spark plugs have been around for a long time...maybe because of this (and similar) early advertising.
