Antique Malls Offer Much...
More Variety!

So, how are antique malls different from a privately owned shop? There are a few points to consider, here. These types of malls can have anywhere from a few dealers to hundreds of dealers located inside their walls.

This photo shows a typical small downtown area where you may find several antique shops and malls.

Each of these storefronts may contain many, many dealers.

So what does that mean to you? It means that they probably have a ton of vintage collectibles for you to choose from.

Plus, if you are considering getting an antique appraisal in the near future, antique malls are a great place to comparison shop.

And, they may even be able to suggest a qualified antique appraiser, or offer advice of the like.

That's a good thing!

Here's how it generally works:

Individual dealers pay monthly rent for a designated space/booth/location to display their goods.

Each one will be identified with a code on the price tag, so the mall owner/manager knows who gets the money.

The bottom line here is selection! You will have a ton of choices to make when you shop at antique malls. And, when you go back the next time, chances are, there will be a ton more!

As booth owners constantly update the look of their mini-shop, items may come and go! Inventory changes frequently! These malls provide an excellent place to shop for anything...all in one spot!

Larger malls are normally air-conditioned/heated, have suitable restroom facilities, and some even have food courts! This can make your shopping experience much more enjoyable! In addition, they are usually located in a high traffic area, such as near the interstate, making them easy to find! Sounds like a pretty good combination, doesn't it?

Are There Any Disadvantages To Antique Malls?

But hold on just a minute! There are a few other factors to consider here! That big building comes with big expenses. Who pays for that? Indirectly, you do! Prices can be somewhat higher!

Keep in mind, however, that not all of these malls are big, huge buildings. Many are simply older storefronts, and even houses, that are converted into retail space. Rent for these locations is normally lower, but so is the selection of goods.

Also, the chances of speaking to the booth owner is unlikely. Contact information is usually provided, but be patient...it may take some time to receive an answer.

Negotiating a price is also not very likely. Normally, you will pay the price as marked. Some mall owners allow special sales. Look closely for sale signs and doublecheck your receipt at the checkout to make sure it was applied to your purchase!

Random Notes...

We like shopping at antique malls, both small and large! We always find something to take home.

Our Advice?

Do this! Look around the towns in your area and you will probably find an "antique town". These towns are usually small towns, where many of the older homes and business's were converted into smaller malls. It's the best of both world's... good prices and good selection!
